TAG Global Sports organises travel for elite clubs in European Rugby Challenge Cup
At TAG Global Sports we love a challenge, the bigger the better!! So when the European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) contacted us to ask if we could help transport two top French clubs to play in Siberia, we were on the case straight away. Rugby Union is a sport very much looking to expand into new territories and Russia is a country where the game is taking off. This year sees two Russian teams Enisei-STM and Krasny Yar competing in the European Rugby Challenge Cup against some of Europe’s top clubs.
The logistical challenge we faced was that both these clubs are based in Krasnoyarsk deep in Siberia, 2,510 miles east of Moscow, (to put this into perspective London is 1,723 miles from Moscow) so when leading French clubs Bordeaux-Bègles and Paris based Stade Français were drawn to play there, we knew we had the kind of challenge we relish. Travel options into Krasnoyarsk are very limited, and due to the fixture, training and recovery schedules of both clubs, the days they could travel on were equally restricted. We needed to get both sets of players on a flying schedule considering a journey of four thousand miles, across five time zones, with at least one change of aircraft on-route, whilst arriving in good enough condition to play a game to top class rugby two days later.
Working very closely with EPRC, the club’s rugby managers and Aeroflot, we have been able to arrange travel and transport that meets their requirements as best as possible. Bordeaux-Bègles got their European Challenge Cup campaign off to a flying start by beating Enisei STM 57 – 17 in snowy Siberia despite a three-hour train journey from Bordeaux to Paris, four-hour flight to Moscow three hour wait in Moscow and an almost five-hour flight from Moscow to Krasnoyarsk, arriving about 4h30 in the morning the day before.

Unfortunately, Stade Français did not fair quite as well, losing narrowly to Krasny Yar 34-29. Needless to say, the team were far happier with the travel arrangement than the result…
“On behalf of EPCR, I’d like to thank you all for your help around the two Challenge Cup games in held in Krasnoyarsk. Your proactivity and professionalism seriously helped us in this unusual trip for both Union Bordeaux-Bègles and Stade Français. Both Teams made it back ok to France and were thankful for the trip.”
